andr0medaas: hey, i have a pretty specific craving haha: any fantasy books with queer queens, or queen-and-consort type relationship? thanks !

Shira Glassman is an excellent author for you to know if you’re looking for queer royals! You can find a rundown on her books here: https://lgbtqreads.com/2016/09/30/the-colorful-catalog-of-shira-glassman/ and you might well love the Alpennia series by Heather Rose Jones, too: https://www.goodreads.com/series/128616-alpennia I don’t think any of them feature queens, exactly, but they’re definitely fantasy books in the queer female royal vein. Similarly, in YA, you can find queer princesses in Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst, and an f/f chieftain/warrior romance, which is much like a queen-and-consort presentation, in The Cursed Queen by Sarah Fine.

Perhaps someone else has more on-the-nose recs?

First of all, thank you for the shout-out! @andromxeda, my four books and one collection of short stories center around a young, nerdy lesbian queen with a wife and kids (well, eventually–spoilers, oops!) and their “found family” consisting of her warrior woman bodyguard, a dragon, a witch, etc. And @lgbtqreads is right that the Alpennia books might scratch that itch even though the f/f couples at their center tend to be wealthy noblewomen instead of princesses.

But, yes, there are additional f/f princess and queen books out there! To add to the books already mentioned in this post:

Promises, Promises by L-J Baker (review) - three lesbians on a wacky quest for magical objects in a parody of LotR/D&D. Two princesses wind up together by the end, one of whom was my favorite character.

Prayer of the Handmaiden by Merry Shannon (review) - stars two f/f couples, one of which contains a queen, fighting to save their country. I think the queen and her partner got together in the earlier book in the series, Sword of the Guardian, but I haven’t read it. I really enjoyed this one, though.

Letters to Zell by Camille Griep (review) - imagine all the fairytale princesses as Real Housewives Of. Now make their stories and complicated friendships beautiful and poignant, and have one of them end up in a happy ending with another woman. (Please mind the TW’s on the review. One of the straight girls doesn’t fare so well. I loved this book, though. It was one of my top reads of 2016.)

Fairest by K.S. Trenten (review) - dark (but there’s a happy ending!) love triangle between Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. Bookmark this one on Goodreads for rerelease some day because right now it’s tied up in publisher hell and if you buy the current version (½/2017) it is extremely unlikely poor Ms. Trenten will see a dime.

My Lady King by @kayla-bird (review) - butch “female king” romances bi witch while trying to win back her kingdom

To be honest, I feel like Merry Shannon has the closest to what you’re looking for out of my recs. I think I wandered into princess territory when that’s not what you said. (And if you’re looking specifically for that queen vibe, not princess, my first book isn’t going to make you as happy as the others might because she’s incredibly inexperienced and clueless since she’s only been queen for two months at that point. You can skip around.)
