Anonymous: Hi! So I compiled a list of things i personally wanted to read that came from your blog and a few other WLW book blogs. (Mostly fantasy) I went to my library and very few of the books where there. I also don't have a lot of money to buy all of the books. Do you have any recommend sources to find the books online? (Legally obviously) Thank you!

lgbtqreads:

All I can really advise is checking out the Shopper’s Delight posts on the site that share when there are sales, and also following my Twitter account (@LGBTQReads) because I RT whenever I spot a wlw book on sale. It’s really hard because the big wlw publishers price really high, but wlw YA actually goes on sale a decent amount, and of course, there’s self-pub, which is a lot of the best wlw anyway tbh. (For example, check out Siera Maley - she’s a really good wlw self-pub author who prices all her stuff around $2.99, and her newest, The Noble of Sperath, is fantasy.) If you’re looking for a legal resource of free traditionally published books, I’m afraid that’s not a thing as far as I know. (Though following authors and publishers of books you want on Twitter is always a good way to be on top of when there are giveaways!)

BUT. Please please please please request that your library buy them. They really do listen to patrons, and it’s great for you, great for your community, and great for authors if they do!!

These might seem like silly questions, but did you just check the shelves for the books, or did you check the catalog? Often books are checked out or available digitally or at another location.

Another amazing, crucial tool in your library-using arsenal is asking about ILL: inter-library loans. Often a book not available through your library can be brought in from a neighboring library system. At my library, you can request them online and it’s totally free! But you can check with your library to see what their ILL policy is.

But definitely request that your library buy what you’re interested in. Often it’s just a form you can submit online, and you might be surprised how often they say yes! Everything varies from library to library, but anything I’m interested in that’s not available at the library or ILL, I request, and usually they’ll order it in.
