I just started my new job at a new branch of the youth organization I work for, which exclusively serves girls K-12. I’m getting settled into my position, and there’s a shelf of books for girls, parents, and mentors in my office.
These books are all PAINFULLY outdated, and many of them unfortunately laced with 90s/00s misogyny. Many with a focus on abstinence, not one mention of the word feminist, only one specifically for girls of color, and zero for queer, trans, or related youth.
I would love to revamp this shelf as a “Little Feminist Library,” but that’s definitely not anything I would ask the organization to do - these books were clearly just a resource for the last person that worked there and not something to be invested in. I wish I could stock the whole thing by myself, but hey, I work for a non-profit. I’m doing what I can with books own and can purchase some, but I’ve gotta call on the feminist community. 💪
I’ve created an amazon wishlist of books I’d love to put in the office; every book purchased will stay at the organization, even if/when I move to another position or location. I will lend and give books to girls as needed, and encourage swapping and sharing. 📚

The exact opposite of okay is a book about a girl realising body and slut shaming is wrong, I haven’t read it but I’m looking forward to it
