forlorn-kumquat: Would you have any recs for WLW books involving sports of some kind, like dancing, ice skating, gymnastics, etc? Thank you so much!

biandlesbianliterature:

I haven’t read a lot myself (I am decidedly not sporty), but definitely check out this goodreads list: Lesbian Fiction with a Sports Theme

I’ve heard good things about Spinning by Tillie Walden (Ice Skating Memoir). For dance, there’s First Position by Melissa Brayden.

I hope that helps!

muralofsolitude replied to your ask post

I didn’t see this on the sports list, so I thought I’d :mention Tumbling by Caela Carter. It’s about gymnastics and it has several girls narrating, one of whom is a wlw. It doesn’t take center stage since there are so many POVs, but it’s still there!

pulsingvoid: can you think of any books that focus on female friendships/friend groups as well as romance? i have yet to read a diverse book about *great* female friendships. i've read lumberjanes and paper girls, but as far as non-comic books go all i know of is Dare Me, and the friendships in that book left something to be desired. all the epic friendship stories that have resonated with me have been between boys (and maybe one girl, two if we're lucky) and i'm Tired

That is a very, very good question! Here’s what I came up with:

To add to the comics pile, I’d definitely sayJem and the Holograms by Kelly Thompson and Sophia Campbell. Group of girl friends/sisters and a F/F romance (with the rival band!) Also, Supermutant Magic Academy by Jillian Tamaki (review), particularly the friendship between two of the girls. This is a little less fluffy than Jem. I’m tempted to throw Goldie Vance by Hope Larson (Author) and Brittney Williams (illustrator) (review) in there too, but the friendships she has with other girls aren’t entirely the focus… but they’re still important, and the romance is adorable. The 2nd and 3rd volumes have more focus on the friendships.

Into the non-comics suggestions, I would definitely say The Color Purple by Alice Walker (review), which is so much about the support these women have for each other.

Just Girls by Rachel Gold (review) and Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde (review)  are mostly just about the friendship between the two girl main characters, but they’re both strong relationships.

Honey Girl by Lisa Freeman (review) is about a group of girl friends, but there’s definitely some… cattiness. It’s not entirely positive.

Ascension by Jacqueline Koyanagi (review) has a poly relationship in space that I feel like might fit, but it’s been a while since I read it and can’t speak to this completely.

I would definitely recommend the Circle of Magic series, though the queer content doesn’t show up until the last book: Will of the Empress by Tamora Pierce (review) This is a tightly-knit group of three girls and one boy. Definitely one of the strongest friendships I’ve ever read.

Does anyone else have suggestions? I’d love to read more female friendship books!

auslgbtqya:

There are some FANTASTIC posters available showcasing some of Australia’s LGBTQIA+ YA.

Read my post about them HERE with links to the downloadable posters.

The second image has a rainbow confetti background. The text at the top is READ LOCAL with “Love is Love” repeated 7 times and #LoveOzYa. Below that are 12 book covers:

The last image is another poster, with rainbow polka dots in the background and the same header and footer. The books are:

9 sapphic book recs (that aren’t contemporary YA)

fucktheg0ds:

I used to complain about there not being enough bi or lesbian main female characters in books, until about a year ago when I realised there are a fuckload of f/f books out there and it would be almost impossible to read them all.

As a present to you, here’s some good ones:

Disclaimer: Some of these have explicit sex scenes, some do not. Some have happy endings, some have ambiguous or not happy endings.

sapphostication:

queer fantasy/sci-fi/paranormal/dystopian books and graphic novels that i’ve read or planning to read

i’m easily distracted, so i decided to make a list of books i should start reading this spring, then i thought that it can be useful for some of my followers, because i’m frequently asked to give recs on these genres…so here it is, kind of a rec list, but not really, because most of them are the things i’m only planning to start
